From the Department of Awesome Interiors comes the breathtakingly elaborate and colourful Peacock Room, located inside the abandoned Sammezzano Castle in Tuscany. The now derelict castle was built in 1605.

“Jacob’s Pillow founder Ted Shawn displays his prowess painting the farmhouse now known as Hunter House in this uncredited 1931 photo.”
So, “father of modern dance” Ted Shawn started an all-men’s dance company, creatively titled “Ted Shawn’s Men Dancers” after Denishawn dissolved. When they weren’t dancing they built the theaters and other facilities on the land surrounding a 1790 farmhouse and former Underground Railroad station in rural western Mass known as Jacob’s Pillow. This eventually became the only dance institution in the country to be named a National Historic Landmark. It’s still a big deal in the dance world today.
