When they weren’t dancing they built the theaters and other facilities on the land surrounding a 1790 farmhouse and former Underground Railroad station in rural western Mass known as Jacob’s Pillow. This eventually became the only dance institution in the country to be named a National Historic Landmark. It’s still a big deal in the dance world today.
